UNLAWFUL DEATHS
"Thirty years after the Argentine genocide, an innovative film conceived from the ghosts of the present, from our coexistance with the sinister".

"La represión posee memoria genética. Todos somos 'espectros' ..." A. García Pintado.

Another SYNOPSIS
‘Characters should not be described, but what exists among them’ J.L. Godard
The documentary Unlawfull Deaths develops life stories going deep inside the various groups of missing people’ families during the military dictatorship in Argentina (1976-1983). These stories are interwoven with the process of transformation of some of the places that were references (not only physical but also phantasmagoric ones) of the totalitarianism at that time. The cases of these families are different among them, but they are all stigmatized with a sinister torment which has no solution of continuity : the missing of a beloved person (husband, son, brother, father), with no mortal remains, no burial, no ending grief.
This situation still has repercussions on the whole social body : the Argentinian society suffer this drama, being unable to accept its dimension.
It is really difficult for an anthropologist to tell story without having the mortal remains.
The narration is re-built with the remains of a civilizations, with the vestiges of its oral tradition.
With our camera we are going over the ex-clandestine centres of detention and torture. Our aim is to find any clue of the people and what happened there. We are recording exhumations, and at the same time we are realising that the victims’ family have been living with ghosts for so long. Even though this work is introduced by a general characterization of the genocide and particularly about the method ‘to make people disappear’ in charge of the National Team of Forensic Anthropologists whose work consists on the recognition of the corpse and the process of exhumation of NN. The dominant perspective is neither the historical investigation nor the \r\npolitical frame, but the forms and the human relationships originated by such method of extermination, as a teaching exemplification towards society. The main aim is to swim in an audiovisual way in the tormented lives to which victims’ families have been submitted. Their lives are determined by the searching or the absence of the missing relative. The people in the cases that we have selected (Chari, Laura, Elena), are inquired in their daily life and intimacy, and in the interrelation with the rest of the members of their transformed family group.
